Formula E veteran Sebastien Buemi secured a dramatic pole position for the Mexico City E-Prix, defeating Taylor Barnard in the final duel.

Barnard had gone quicker in the final at the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez, but saw his lap time deleted for exceeding track limits at the final corner.

Mahindra's Edoardo Mortara starts from third and is joined by Jaguar's Mitch Evans on the second row.

In a huge upset, Pascal Wehrlein was eliminated in the group stage and qualified in 11th, despite having started the last two races in Mexico City from pole.

Rookie Pepe Marti qualified in 19th, but starts from last due to a back of the grid penalty from the season-opener.
