Lando Norris topped the timesheets on the opening day of the first of two three-day tests in Bahrain, while Max Verstappen impressed.
It had been the four-time world champion who went quickest in the morning; however, Norris moved the benchmark to a 1m 34.669 in the afternoon.
Verstappen also improved to go second fastest after having the entire day in Red Bull's RB22, while most other teams ran both drivers.
There was a brief red flag due to Audi's Nico Hulkenberg coming to a halt, although he was quickly able to continue running and gathering data.
