Andretti's Jake Dennis secured pole position for the Formula E season-opening São Paulo E-Prix; however, he was beaten in the final duel by Porsche's Pascal Wehrlein.
Wehrlein claimed pole and the three points on offer, but received a three-place grid penalty for wheelspin in the pit lane. As a result, he will start in fourth, with Dan Ticktum and Edoardo Mortara in second and third.
It was a disastrous session for Andretti's Felipe Drugovich, who crashed out of his first qualifying as a full-time driver after hitting a wall.
Reigning world champion Oliver Rowland also suffered a bad session and was eliminated in the duels, with a three-place grid penalty dropping him to 13th on the grid after qualifying in 10th.
