Mercedes' Valtteri Bottas has set the pace in the opening practice session at Spa-Francorchamps, finishing ahead of Red Bull's Max Verstappen, with both setting their best times on the soft tyre after a slow start to the hour with the track damp from some morning rainfall.
Bottas put in a clean lap on the soft tyre to go quickest late in the session, while Lewis Hamilton couldn't put in a clean lap as he encountered Williams' Nicholas Latifi as the pair approached the Bus Stop chicane.
Verstappen didn't improve from his hard tyre time when he was first fitted with the soft, but improved late in the session on that same set of tyres to finish just over a tenth behind Bottas.
