Why Red Bull are confident of a good showing in Austria

With their drivers first and second in the Championship, and the team leading the way in the Constructors' standings, Red Bull are in a good place heading into their home race in Austria, and Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez are hopeful of a strong showing on home tarmac.

Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez are confident that Red Bull can get back to winning ways at their team's home race in Austria this weekend. After running over a piece of debris in the early stages of last weekend's British Grand Prix, Verstappen could only limp home seventh, but he had shown his and Red Bull's form by winning five of 2022's previous six races. Verstappen has also won three of the last four Austrian Grands Prix, and with the Dutchman typically receiving a lot of support at Red Bull's home circuit, the championship leader says he is confident of a strong weekend in the Styrian hills. "I have a lot of good memories from racing in Austria so I'm really excited to go back," said Verstappen. "It's a really interesting track with not many corners, it's a lot of fun to drive. "The atmosphere is always great, I love seeing the fans in the grandstands and I think people in general just really enjoy the weekend there. "Silverstone was a tough race but we look ahead and hopefully we can have a good weekend and really maximise the points available over a Sprint weekend at our home circuit. "I expect it to be a good weekend for us as a team."

Perez praises 'incredible support' in Austria

Despite being forced into an early pit-stop at Silverstone to change a damaged front wing, Perez nevertheless salvaged second place, and the Mexican talked up Red Bull's competitiveness so far in 2022. "I'm coming off the back of a very pleasing result at the British GP, I always say never give up, and this was the case at Silverstone," Perez explained. "We hadn't had the best weekend up to that point with the car, but in the end I managed to get on the podium and we all need to be proud of that. "We're set for another battle on track in Austria and I think all the drivers can say we're having a lot of fun racing each other this season." Perez lies second in the Drivers' Championship behind Verstappen, with victory in the Monaco Grand Prix to his name, and the 32-year-old praised the level of support that Red Bull typically receive at the Austrian race. "It's going to be great to be back in Austria this week," he added. "It's one of our home races and you feel that the minute you enter the circuit, the team get incredible support there. "I am looking forward to this weekend massively, I think it's safe to say we'll be the most supported team and we want to give the fans something back."
